As we had an all day tour booked, we had to get a quick breakfast of blueberry pancakes from the 'Burger Bar' finishing off with that chocolate thing from the cafe. We caught the free shuttle bus from the ship to the centre of town, where we were greeted by our tour guides. As we were early, for a change, we had to wait around for about half an hour or so before boarding the bus to Florence.
It was a long drive to Florence, but once we got there, our tour guide, Marte, walked us to our meeting point, which happened to be at McDonalds. Logan had read somewhere that McDonalds in Italy sell pizza, so he wanted to try it. Worst McDonalds ever, not even a pizza, and we had to pay €1 to use the toilets. We had a bucket with chicken nuggets, cheese balls and chicken pieces instead.
After lunch we had an hour and a half to look around Florence. We saw the Santa Maria Novella, a gothic church. We carried onto the Duomo, which had marvelous architectural buildings. From there we walked to Palazzo Vecchio and saw a number of statues including the Pietà (Lion), Fountain of Neptune, the replica of David, bronze equestrian statue, and some random chick on her phone. We then walked to the Basilica and Piazza Santa Croce, where Michelangelo and Galileo Galilei are buried. Ponte Vecchio, the oldest bridge in Florence and all the shops on the bridge sell gold.
As time was running out we started making our way back to the bus. On the way we stopped to get a gelato, then at the meeting point we got another refresher.
Once everyone was back on the bus, after almost leaving a couple behind, we made our way to Pisa. Our first glimpse of the tower was amazing. Of course we did our part of keeping it from falling over. Our guide recommended getting a gelato from a place called Rufus, cant say no to another gelato. On the way we saw a horse and cart and couldn't resist a photo. After the gelato, which was really good 😋, we made our way back to the bus.
Because we got back late we missed our booking at the Pink Agave, a Mexican restaurant on the boat, so we got the same amazing great pizza and ice cream instead. By this time they knew us as regulars, so as we were leaving Lloyd said, "we'll see you tomorrow". While eating our pizzas we saw a beautiful sunset.
