No pictures of breakfast today as it was pretty much the same breakfast we've had for the last week, croissants and pastries. We had an early start today, as we were going to Jungfraujoch, the 'Top of Europe'. We caught a train, just round the corner from our hotel, to Grindelwald, where we then hopped on the most modern gondola in the world, which could fit up to 26 passengers, to Elgergietscher. Finally, we went on a cog train to Jungfraujoch, which actually went into the mountain.
The train finishes inside the mountain, where there is a restaurant, toilets, giftshop and an Ice Palace We were given a Jungfraujoch passport, which we stamped with a Jungfrau Top of Europe stamp. We then took a lift up further before making our way outside. Unfortunately, the mountain was covered in fog and all we could see was whiteness for a while, but then the sun came out and the fog started to drift in and out, so we managed to get some photos of the glacier and the mountain. Of course we had to have a photo with the Swiss flag. We went back down the lift, walked through some tunnels to the other side of the mountain, where we got the nicest hot chocolates. While we were drinking these we noticed a zipline, so I decided, I'm only here once, why not. I landed on my butt, at the end, and got snow in my pants pockets.
We went back inside the mountain, through the 'Ice Palace" a series of ice tunnels with lots of ice sculptures and figurines throughout. The tunnels were quite slippery, so we had to hold onto the rails, but I decided to have a bit of fun and go for a slide, on my knees. We saw the squirrel, from 'Ice Age', a sculpture of a man playing the piano and a lot of other things. The tunnels ended back at the giftshop, where we had a little time to look around before heading back down the mountain.
Just as we were getting on the bottom train to our hotel, two of our ladies sent a message to say they were lost. We couldn't wait for them, as the train was just about to leave, so Mayra called them, from the train, to tell them to catch the next train, and the bus would pick them up from the train station. Fortunately we had put our bags on the bus after breakfast. Once everyone was back on the bus, we headed to Dijon, in France.
We stopped at another service centre for lunch. We were going to get Burger King, as we thought it would be the cheapest option, but it was very expensive. We ended up getting an expensive pizza and donuts instead. Sotiri gave me an early birthday present, which he bought in Switzerland, but I didn't take a photo of it.
When we finally arrived in Dijon, we had to quickly take our bags to our room and get ready for dinner. Mayra took us on a walking tour around the city centre before taking us to La Brasserie des Loges, where we were all having dinner together.
We had all chosen what we wanted for dinner beforehand, not that there was much choice. For starters we had a salad with a hint of bacon bits. Mains was chicken with courgette, while dessert was apple and ice-cream. One of the girls also had a birthday so the restaurant put a sparkler in her dessert.
After dinner we decided to go for an evening stroll around Dijon, before heading back to the hotel for the night. It is quite pretty with all the lights.
